OPEN Ambassadors - update

Gerard Vroomen - 12-Dec-2022
APPLICATION TIME IS UP - THANKS TO ALL WHO APPLIED

Thanks for all your applications, that was a little more than I anticipated. But I do try to respond to everybody, so if you're picked you will find an email confirming it and explaining how the discount works. If not then you'll find an email from me as well. We simply cannot pick everybody and of course it's a bit of a subjective process.

I'm amazed at all the different walks of life people come from, that is one of the great things about cycling and I am happy we also seem to have such a diverse following. We definitely also want that to be reflected in our ambassadors, so really everybody can apply or add something to what you wrote before (please do so by forwarding your original message and adding something so I won't get too confused). I hope that in my previous post I didn't somehow give the wrong impression, so let me make a few points:
  • One thing that saddened me was to read emails like "you're probably not looking for somebody like me". Too old, too young, too slow, too remote, etc. But none of those things play any role for us.
  • Some people think they have no chance because they hate social media. Well as you may have read from us before, we're not exactly crazy about it either. We'd rather ride. If you make a good argument about why you should be an ambassador, it's fine by us. (one person offered to get back onto social media to become an ambassador - we really don't want to be the cause of that!)
  • Speaking of social media, if you post a lot on Strava instead of (or in addition to) social media, let us know that too.
  • Quite a few people saw this program as a way to finally get to ride the bike they have been dreaming of but simply can't afford. And that is totally legitimate. We know cycling is expensive and we know our bikes are at the high end. We don't necessarily like that but it's the reality. So if this program can make your dream come true, why not.
I'll go back to answering emails now. And because my updates won't post without at least one photo, here's the OPEN U.P. Ekar as an example of a nice ambassador option at USD/EUR 3,500.

Are you still accepting ambassador applications? If so, I am a Sales Staff Member at Rapha Los Angeles, interested in applying.
I live in Valencia, CA, which has its fair share of cyclists who might enjoy seeing your brand represented in the area.
Thank you.

Hi,

I’d love to be an ambassador of Open. In fact in some ways I already am. I live in bike crazy Canberra.
I have the limited Yeti Up, one of 7 to come to Australia.
I ride it everywhere. I’ve taken it on bike packing adventures doing the Hunt1000, the Mawson trail, Vic Divide550, lots of 2-3 day trips also into the snowy mountains and other locations.
I also race my Open in the local cyclocross race series, ride single track at my local MTB trails, ride the beaches of beautiful byron bay and have a second set of wheels to turn it into my road bike when I do go road.

I have aboriginal heritage ( Noongar people ) and I would love to get a RTP UP to get finished in traditional aboriginal dot art for my people telling the story of my family and cycling journey.

Most of my posts on Instagram or FB feature my Open “Chenoo”.

I am always saying, if I could only have one bike, this would be the one. Big call considering I have another Yeti in the stable.

Thank you

Steve

I have returned to riding a few years ago and am currently riding a Fuji Jari. I would love to replace it with an OPEN gravel bike. I am planning to participate in gravel races throughout the MidAtlantic states this spring, summer and fall. Gravel biking has become a passion for me and it would be an honor to serve as an OPEN ambassador.

I am writing to nominate my riding buddy, Charles Dye, for OPEN Ambassador. Charles is an award-winning documentarian who I am planning to ride the Great Divide with in 2023. I already have an OPEN, but I would love to present Charles with one. In return, I promise that I will make sure Charles films our trip and produces inspirational videos that you can use to promote OPEN cycles, thus completing the virtuous cycle. ??

Hello! Luckily, I was accepted as an OPEN ambassador. I am very excited to be part of the group. As the post mentions, I too felt ambivalent about applying because I'm not a big social media influencer. At any rate. thank you. I wanted to add that my first journey on an OPEN bike was trying to get the right bike through the program. I have to say that the gentleman who helped me through the process, Sebastian Weiche, was amazing. He stayed with me through all of the silly questions I posed to him. We started communicating almost daily. Thank you very much, Sebastian. If you're lucky to get selected, you'll get the royal treatment from the OPEN staff. Thanks again...

Good morning Gerard,

I need some clarification,

I want to buy the U.P. EKAR in sage colour, but when I use the « how to buy » scrolling menu on your website it is not available in sage, in the « shop complete bike » section.

I have to use the « shop frames, forks & parts kits » section to select sage coulour.

Is the ambassador discount available if I use the « frames, forks & parts kits » section or do I have to order it through the « shop complete bikes » section and then sage colour is not available?

to make sure I understand well: when I use the «shop, frame, forks & parts kits » does everything comes in a box and I have to assemble the bike myself?

But if I order the OPEN U.P. EKAR from the « shop complete bike » section is it already assembled and ready to ride?

How do I apply my ambassador discount, on the email I received it says that it is associated with my email but on the latest OPEN Ambassador update from Gerard it says we will have a discount code

Thanks for your help,

Regards,

Hans

Hi Gerrard, I’m probably too late for being an Ambassador however I would like tell someone who doesn’t know me my story.
I was involved in a Road Traffic Accident , 23 July 2018, car verses bike. I was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, where I spent the next 7 weeks. I broke a few bones, left shoulder, neck, a few vertebrae in my back, fortunately nothing too serious apart from the TBI( Traumatic Brain Injury).
Fortunately for me I don’t remember it, in fact I have no memory from before my accident.
I have made progress since then, I’m back on a bike, a lot of bumping in to my wife (riding outside me ) to begin with, balance was a problem, then there was the problem with multitasking, steering, braking, changing gear, looking out for other road users etc. I will say I’m not the worst road user in Norfolk but I’m also far from the best. I’ve moved on from 23 July 2018, a lot of therapy, personal training, hours on a Wattbike ATOMX( helping with most of my multitasking). To sum up my overall feeling is frustration. I don’t blame the driver and it’s something I have to get on with. It took a long time to get to where I am today, for me every day is a school day. I would love to be an Ambassador for Open (not sure what is expected of an Ambassador) however, I know I should have applied sooner but wasn’t sure if I was ready to share my experience.

Most days our temperatures linger near freezing, but I’ve taken a few rides up on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Craggy Mountain outside of Black Mountain NC when the road is closed for automobiles. I already love this Upper Ekar on my regular ride - climbing thousands of feet and screaming back down the mountain. Many thanks for the Ambassador opportunity!
