New Graphite U.P. frameset

Gerard Vroomen - 19-Sep-2023
With the bike industry slowly returning to normal, we can start to work more on fun stuff again (besides eating ice cream).

First up is a new color for the U.P. - Graphite. It's hard to get it right in the photos, but this is really a nice color. Understate and chique. Available as a frameset (4th item on the page, then select the Graphite color) or as a complete bike if you combine it with Ekar or Force/Eagle drivetrain and wheel packages lower on that same page. If your size or type of drivetrain is not available, then no worries, our OPEN retailers can help you out with completing any of our framesets.

More fun stuff, we have some rides planned for you. Later more on this, but if you want to save the date, we're working on:
  • CrossFondue on November 26, 2023 - a late Fall ride and a traditional Swiss fondue)
  • Rhine und Raus on July 13, 2024 - a Summer ride and a cool-down swim in the Rhine river, floating through Basel)
Both rides will be around 125km long with optional shortcuts (for Andy of course :-). We haven't done group rides like this for some time due to Covid and general busyness, so we're excited to see many of you again at these rides. We're also thinking of doing a ride somewhere in the USA next year, but we're not sure yet when, where and how.

Right lower kink compress during braking causing skidding?

Double lower kink and upper kinks create suspension rear etc?

Hi Derwyn,

Not really, there is no flex in the dropped chainstay, it is super stiff in that area.

We certainly plan to do something West Coast, just have to figure out how to make that feasible.

Sadly all those EKAR/SRAM kits are not available to buy. Only a few with L / XL.

Will there be a stock update coming? I love the color - but it's not possible to buy

There are a few more Ekar groups coming. For Force/Eagle, no more stock coming soon.

Sorry, to add to that, of course all our OPEN retailers will build the frame for you with any drivetrain you desire. And most bike shops right now have enough stock to do that immediately. Even non-OPEN retailers can do that for you if you buy the frame from us and then build it with them, and component pricing is quite competitive right now.

That's a dope color. Are the HED Emporia GA Pro 700c wheel kits still available for purchase on the site when combined with a frameset? When selecting that option, it defaults to the 27.5" (650b) option in the checkout cart, rather than the actual selection for 700c.

Is the UP still limited to a 40 wide tire? If so, OPEN and/or the dealers should offer a trade in value on an UP for let’s say an WI.DE.

Hi Nicholas, we will not do a whole production run for the WIDE in this color, so it is only available as a custom paint option. The cost for a single color custom paint like that (or any other color of course) is around 400 Euro at one of the custom painters we work with in Europe.

No RAL code, but the target is pure Cyan from CMYK. However quite tough to match. What are you trying to achieve, maybe I can help you some other way?

Hi Gerard, I have some chips and a deeper scratch which I want to cover nicely. I thought basically every colour has a RAL code.
By the way I had some issues with queeking noises - finally it was the rear dropout in the right side (derailleur hanger) that needed some fat. Or better use loctite here?

Hi Steffen, grease is OK, Loctite is not necessary. Just always make sure the locknut on the outside of the right dropout is securely fastened. For a matching touch-up paint, you can get it here (3rd item on the list): https://opencyc...ssory
