More "complete" bike options

Gerard Vroomen - 21-Sep-2020
Two weeks ago we re-introduced the complete WI.DE. bike. And like a cheap infomercial, we said "but wait, there's more". So here it is.

Maybe you want a complete bike but prefer the orange WIDE (see the frame here with a different parts kit).  Or custom frame color, the XS size or even an UP or UPPER frame? We now offer that opportunity. Here's how:

We now offer the parts that we use on the WIDE complete bike also as a parts kit. So you can buy any frameset, add the drivetrain and wheel set parts kit and voila, you have a complete OPEN gravel machine. There are a few things to consider:

  • We only sell the parts kits in combination with the frameset it will be assembled on; we are not allowed to sell these parts separately (and have no desire to do so either). So either through your local OPEN retailer, or through the online store, you need to purchase a Gravel drivetrain kit + Gravel wheelset kit + Gravel frameset of your choice.
  • This shipment arrives to you/your retailer in 3 separate boxes, so your OPEN retailer will assemble it for you or you need to arrange your own assembly.
  • If you decide to put this parts kit on an UP or UPPER, it's a great combo that many of our customers use. But there is one caveat: The tires included in the kit are really optimized for the WIDE, so they are too big for the UP/UPPER. Hence you'll need to get a different set of tires to complete the bike. We do not have any different tires in stock at this point.
  • You can mix and match sizes though. So if you want the stem and crank length of our Small parts kit on a Medium frame, no problem. You also have the choice of 700c (29") or 650b (27.5") wheels, as long as supplies last.

So it's a little bit of work, but a great way to get exactly what you want. And of course, the best way to get a custom painted yet complete bike on the go. We don't have a lot of these kits, so don't wait too long (just like we saw with the complete bikes two weeks ago, where some sizes were sold out in a day).

This is great! Any plans to introduce a similar complete build option for the MIN.D?

Hi there, no plans for a complete MIND at the moment. That would require a completely different kit and we're already too busy right now unfortunately. but of course our OPEN retailers will gladly build up a MIND with whatever spec you'd like.

Just ordered my Wi.de, hardest part was deciding on which wheel option to choose.

Thanks for this. I actually ordered a custom paint WIDE from one of your retail partners - hoping to get in the next week or two. One note on your 700c build - you ascribe G-One All Road 45mm tires- I can’t find these anywhere on the Schwalbe site. The closest is 700x38mm. I’ve spent the last hr perusing the site - you do a great job breaking down 650b tire options and cite a few part numbers that work - I can’t find the same for 700c - apologize in advance if you’ve covered this off.

It's there. Just search for ETRTO code 45-622 and you'll see a G-One Allround in the Evolution line.

I note that all of your U.P. frames are sold out in small and medium sizes...any ideas on when those will come back on-line, or are there new frames being designed and built for 2021? Looking to build my dream bike up over the winter, and have been saving for an OPEN. Your parts package looks great, and I was just about ready to commit, when I saw that the frames were sold out.

Hi Andrew, New stock is coming in for October (though probably won't last long). No plans for any changes.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will look forward to the arrival of the new frames. One additional question. I seem to be right on the cusp between a size small and medium. At 170cm, I lean towards smaller frames to improve stand over height and maneuverability. Wondering what your advice would be on frame size, and crank length.
