The Illegal Duo

Gerard Vroomen - 26-Aug-2013
While some struggle to get a road bike under the 6.8kg UCI limit, OPEN is introducing two mountain bikes that accomplish this feat; the ORA Ltd (with rigid fork) and LOLA Proto (with suspension fork). The best news is, the weight limit doesn’t apply to mountain bikes so you can race these bikes without any problem! Both will be on display at Eurobike on the AX-Lightness booth at A2-207, so please come visit us. Andy or I will be at the booth each day of the show from 4-6pm. During the remaining hours, we cannot guarantee we will be at the booth because we mainly use Eurobike for meetings with suppliers and current OPEN retailers.

ORA Ltd (Open Rigid AX, Limited Edition)

The new Limited Edition from OPEN is for all the fans of rigid set-ups. The ORA spec is fully focused on the most direct & precise mountain bike experience:
  • Unparalleled directness from the Whisky rigid fork, both in pedaling efficiency and in going exactly where you point the handlebars.
  • Ultra-light, stiff & strong OPEN O-1.0 frame is the perfect complement to the rigid fork.
  • New range of AX cockpit parts follow the low weight / high stiffness theme.
  • The optional new AX LRS tubeless wheels with wider rims and Tune hubs.

Taken together, these parts ensure that you have:
  • The best energy-efficiency on the climbs.
  • Ultra-precise cornering with the most direct steering & maximum lateral tire stiffness (with the wider AX rims).
  • An incredibly low bike weight, at 6.4kg in size 435-Large.
The ORA is sold as a fuselage in a limited run of only 10 units. It includes:
Frame: OPEN O-1.0 green machine
Fork: Whisky 9 Disc 15mm

LOLA Proto (Leaf-spring Open Lauf AX, Prototype not yet available)

For riders who want an impossibly light mountain bike without forgoing front suspension, we introduce the LOLA Proto:
  • 6.6kg including the Lauf suspension fork. 60mm of travel in an incredibly light package.
  • O-1.0 frame is still the world’s lightest 29er production hardtail, with a sub-900g frame weight even in size Large. Yet it passes the toughest EFBe strength & durability tests with flying colors.
  • Finishing kit of AX-Lightness’ new cockpit parts & tubeless wheelset and a stock SRAM XX1 drivetrain make this a completely functional bike without restrictions or shortcuts.
The LOLA Proto is not yet in production, updates coming at opencycle.com.
